How To Care For Your Body Jewelry

*TL;DR at the bottom*

Solid 14k gold and sterling silver body jewelry can be worn 24/7, but it must be cleaned weekly. Keeping your jewelry clean and tarnish-free will maintain your skin's health and leave your jewelry in good shape.

Things to Know:

-Precious metals like gold and silver will tarnish over time. Silver tarnishes faster than gold, but gold will still tarnish in certain conditions.

-Our bodies produce oils and moisture, this is what causes the tarnishing. Because of this, and the dirt and bacteria that collects, it needs to be cleaned weekly if you wear it 24/7.

-If you are not wearing your body jewelry all the time, clean it before you put it in storage. Remove any tarnish before wearing it again.

Step 1:

Use a polishing cloth to remove any noticeable tarnish. Silver jewelry will need to have this done more often. The part of the jewelry that contacts your skin will tarnish faster than the rest of the piece.

Step 2:

Soak your body jewelry in mild soapy water,*do not soak in anything but mild soapy water. *Only soak for up to 2 minutes.

Step 3:

After soaking, use a soft toothbrush to gently scrub it. Make sure to get inside any crevasses. Swish it around in the water a bit and remove it. Run under fresh tap water.

Step 4:

To sterilize the piece, dip it in saline body jewelry cleaner. Pat dry with a clean, soft towel.
